Matthew 28 (ESV)

The Resurrection

Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he[a] lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.” So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. And behold, Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

The Report of the Guard

11 While they were going, behold, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests all that had taken place. 12 And when they had assembled with the elders and taken counsel, they gave a sufficient sum of money to the soldiers13 and said, “Tell people, ‘His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ 14 And if this comes to the governor's ears, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” 15 So they took the money and did as they were directed. And this story has been spread among the Jews to this day.

The Great Commission

16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Amen Sarah!

He came to seek the lost, teach the way and pay the cost, but He is risen. Thank you Lord Jesus, for Your life, death, burial, and resurrection.

Really got a lot out of reading Matthew! Thank u Jesus for dying for me!

I'm with you Dee! You reminded me that Easter Day, 15 years ago, I was saved in church. My own salvation is an encouragement to me that other people with hearts just as lost as mine was, can be turned in an instant through the faithfulness of his Word awakened in the heart. I'm excited to see what the Lord will do in the next 15!! Praise God!

Theme Summary: After three days Jesus rose from the dead (and did not have his body stolen by the disciples as reported among the Jews) and was seen by the disciples, whom he commanded with all authority and power to go and make disciples of the kingdom from all nations.

He is risen! I do pray that this Easter will be the time that many people who have never heard the truth of the gospel, will come to Believers Fellowship church and hear it proclaimed boldly and JOYFULLY!

"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[b] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” What a reminder that we are called to evangelism! Christ has promised He will be with us to the ends of the earth... let's trust Him and be bold in our witness for Him!

The entire world worships dead gods. We serve a risen and living King. The risen Jesus told his disciples not to be afraid and then to go and make disciples of the entire world. We can do this, unafraid, because He lives!

He is alive!

He lives, He lives Christ Jesus lives today. He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.
He lives, He lives salvation to impart.
You ask me how I know He lives. He lives within my heart.

“He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said.” I need to preach this sentence not only to others, but to myself. I worship a King who predicted He would conquer death! And He did, just like He said He would! This is whom we serve, whom I pray to, and who calls me friend! Father, please remind Believers Fellowship to do what Christ has commissioned us to do. Amen!

Praise God for the resurrection of his son! I couldn’t help but think about the great joy being experienced by both Marry Magdalene and the other Marry at this time. What a blessing it would have been to witness this in person. My hope is that I would live my life with great joy so that others might notice something different about me! God I pray for opportunity to witness to my friends and co-workers about the great joy in my life and in my heart. Thank you for sending you son to save me from eternal damnation and instead giving me eternal life!
